M.S.N.D presented by Intermission Youth Theatre

Intermission Youth Theatre's latest production M.S.N.D, reimagines Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night's Dream with this modern take. The production combines A Midsummer Night’s Dream’s mystical narrative with contemporary social topics of identity, relationships and substance abuse.

Just like A Midsummer's Night Dream, M.S.N.D is centred on a night of mystical chaos, love and laughter. King and Queen Theseus and Hyppolyta are reimagined into a contemporary couple Oberon and Titania.  The royals are struggling to rebuild trust in their relationship, which has ultimately resulted in Oberon losing access to see their child. Puck, a fairy, is still as chaotic as ever and introduces Oberon to a new drug, M.S.N.D.

M.S.N.D interweaves storylines, which includes conflict among a group of young lovers, where the dynamics of self confidence is explored and the impact it has on young people building romantic relationships. Another follows a teenage group of amateur actors rehearsing for their school play. They explore generational impacts between father and son and we witness a donkey cameo!  If you know, you know.

In one shape or another, all the characters find themselves in situations where they take M.S.N.D and they all experience the same high as Oberon; the ability to speak the Shakespearian language and  interact with the fairies, who only appear whilst under the influence.
The fairies are one of the stand out stars. They move as one, effervescently through the set. Exploring their inquisitiveness with the characters while still being mischievous. They were able to continue the mystical nature and provide connectivity to the Shakespearean favourite A Midsummer's Night Dream, a story that continues to be re-told and reimagined time after time.
