I AM Talks: Samata Pattinson, on sustainable fashion

I AM had the pleasure of speaking to the exceptional Samata Pattinson, CEO of Red Carpet Green Dress (RCGD) on sustainability in the fashion industry.

RCGD is responsible for sustainably dressing Hollywood favourites like Lakeith Stanfield, Sophie Turner and Naomi Harris for the red carpet. This interview gave us so many gems, so many quotable moments, we could literally have spoken to Samata the entire day.

Sustainable fashion is quite rightfully a hot talking point, with calls to make transformative changes to the fashion industry to protect the environment and eliminate the exploitation of its workers.

“Black women for so long have pioneered sustainability…One of my first role models was Professor Wangari Maathai who founded the Greenbelt Movement.”

Well, we got into it, we spoke about accessible sustainable fashion, the impact on the environment, amplifying the Black voices that have historically advocated for sustainable living and Samata’s 8:20 rule.

Samata celebrates Professor Wangari Maathai for her profound impact on the sustainable industry, be sure to check out our feature on Professor Wangari Maathai the founder of the Greenbelt Movement.
